Washington Post blasts Bill Cunningham

To say the least, Washington Post writer Leonard Shapiro wasn’t amused by Bill Cunningham’s diatribe about Carson Palmer’s injury on WLW-AM Monday afternoon. Here’s Shapiro’s first paragraph:
“The drive from downtown Cincinnati to the airport Monday morning was a maddening journey, if only because the radio was tuned in to a classically irresponsible talk show host on WLW. Bill Cunningham was the so-called host and he billed himself as the conscience of the Bengals. Mostly though, it was unconscionable that he was allowed to spew the sort of venom that poisoned the local airwaves. "

Here’s the link for the whole story:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/10/AR2006011000921_pf.html

And here’s my guess why Willie and WLW-AM folks won’t be upset about the story:
It’s just more publicity for the station. National attention. This is just another instance of WLW-AM personalities shrewdly making themselves the center of attention (like Andy Furman wearing a Steelers jersey to the live pregame party broadcast Sunday), instead of the team. They’re making the town – and sometimes the nation – talk… about WLW.
Isn't that always their way?

The nation now knows what the tri-state knows, WLW is full of hot air

This is Dave in Atlanta again.

I disagree with Anonymous, and with what seems to be John's disagreement of WLW making themselves the talk of the nation? What's wrong with that? I long for a decent station in Atlanta that matches WLW. I miss listening to WLW all day. I have lived down here for 9 months and my A.M. news/talk consists of two choices: The Clear Channel AM which is the worst station ever - no reception and horrible programming. I actually pick up WLW driving to work better than I do the clear channel local.

The other station a halfway decent news/talk. Decent signal and it's where all of the syndicated guys from Atlanta originate from. The only problem is that makes for NO local talk.

Just my opinion. Guess I need a user name since this is my second post...I'll get one - it will be 'davefromatlanta'.

Keep up the good work John.

yea even if you don't like the personalities, you have to be happy that there is at least one place that talks about cincinnati for at least 19 hours a day. it pretty much sets a standard for local talk radio stations across the country; who else can be heard in 38 states at night?!
