Ch 12 names Ch 64 anchor team

This just in: We now know the face(s) of Channel 64's new 10 p.m. newscast to be produced in August by WKRC-TV. Cammy Dierking and Dave Burchell will be moving to prime-time on Ch. 64 , in addition to keeping their anchor jobs at Local 12. Paula Toti will anchor weekends on both stations -- 10 p.m. on Ch 64, and 11 p.m. on Ch. 12.
The two stations announced the news partnership in April. Channel 64 canceled its 10 p.m. newscast in February, leaving WXIX-TV (Channel 19) with the only 10 p.m. local news. We'll see how putting Dierking on the air at 10 p.m. will do in the ratings. She was a winner for years in the morning for Ch. 12.
Channel 12 did not name a meteorologist for the Channel 64 newscast. And if the 10 p.m. newscast has sports, Harvey Smilovitz won’t be part of it. The reporter-weekend anchor signed off Sunday, after his contract was not renewed after 8 years. Smilovitz declined to comment when I reached him Monday.

Isn't 12 stretching themselves thin? Why not hire some additional employees?

How many former 64 employees are still without a job?

Isn't channel 19 looking for another sports reporter, especially on the weekends? I'll take Harvey over Betsy Ross. (Note to Betsy: back away from the caffeine just a wee bit!)

does this mean we might see a new set for local 12? hopefully, because their current one is very outdated....

Does the set really matter all that much? It must not if 12 is number one. 5 just spent a ton of money building a new set and no one watches them.

Sad to see Harvey gone. He was a decent sports anchor.

I thought the hoopla when the deal was announced was how the newscast on 64 was going to be quite different at 10 than the news at 11 on 12.

Sounds like the same ol'.

Any chance these newscasts will be on 12.2, the CW, whose logo looks like they took the old PM Magazine logo and turned it upside down?

the set may not really matter, but it definitely helps with the overall effect. channel 9 made a huge change a few years ago, and their set needed updating. it just helps....

Maybe Harvey will host the new Ohio Lottery TV show since they've cancelled Cash Explosion Double Play (Last show in September)

Harvey at 19? Does that mean he will have to shave his super-sized head to fall into the bald guys thing?

On a more serious note, before Harv sends out any demo tapes he should first learn how to write a complete sentence and learn to TALK to the audience, not scream.

I agree with the above poster--Harvey always SCREAMED the sportscast and yelled a lot -- maybe that's why his contract wasn't renewed after 8 years.

Does anyone know why they took Rob/Kit/Tim/Brad's picture off the Wkrc.com website (home page)?????

it's been off for awhile now...probably to make wkrc.com seem like a news website in its own right....

I didn't hear that WOTH 25 was going off the air? When is that Happening. As for WBQC, They haven't got a digital channel yet and if they don't get on the ball, the'll probably be off the air when analog shut off comes in Feb '09

So why did 9 change their Web site to look like 5's?

at 6/14/2006 10:58 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

it doesn't

at 6/14/2006 11:51 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Main story on left, headlines on right? Looks just like the top of 5's page to me.

Well, in fairness, there's only so many ways to put things on a rectangle, you know?

Here's what I think Ch. 12 should do:

5:30 & 10 p.m. -- Dave Burchell, Cammy Dierking, Michelle Boutilette

5, 6, & 11 p.m. -- Rob, Kit, Tim

12 p.m. -- Anna or Dayna, male co-anchor (?), and Steve H.

4 p.m. weather -- Michelle B.

I think we should give this suggesion to the Ch. 12 GM or News Director

Move Dayna to mornings and move Anna to street reporting.

I like the other suggestions.

It's too bad Steve H. isn't the chief meteorologist. He is the dean of Cincinnati weather....and was hired by the grand poobah himself, Tony Sands.

My question about all of this what additional shows are we going to see on 12.2?

at 6/14/2006 11:08 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

If I don't have digital cable, does that mean I won't be able to watch the new CW channel or will Insight provide it on regular cable?

at 6/15/2006 9:52 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

no digital cable no 12.2

About getting CW: Channel 12 folks say they're working on getting cable carriage of the digital 12.2 channel by fall. We'll see if that happens.

Channel 12.2 is available free over the air.

at 6/16/2006 7:49 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah right but you have to buy either a new digital ready tv or a convertor

harv was a hack. I witnessed him getting David West's autograph after an interview. He also interviewed Kent Mercker believing Mercker was Bronson Arroyo. Where do they get these people?

I watched the debut of Tara yesterday. She wasn't too bad but, knowing the city and background, I would have taken Gary Burbank's daughter Tracy, who has the sports and reporting background (on top of the production background). I think the name would have been an attraction too....look at Marty's son Tom?

who is the new sports reporter gal? there is nothing about her on their website.

I can't even get a bio or any pics of Harvey Smilovitz, its like he has been erased. C'mon he's still in Cincy he'll be picked up by someone so lets see his bio and pics. You are not forgotten Harvey!!!!

I don't like the way they got rid of Harvey. I saw the newscast that night and they just said this would be his last. Then the anchor doesn't even say we'll miss you or anything. That's how they treat someone after eight years there I guess. I always liked him. Better than, although not as cute as, the young girl they got to replace him.

kucjChannel 12 made a big mistake not renewing Harvey's contract. Tara talks to fast to be understood. I even like Harvey better than Brad.
Someone please tell Cammy to go to a hairdresser who will get her away from the Bozo look.
