Ch 12 News: Harvey's Replacement

You may not know the name, but the folks at Channel 12 do: Tara Pachmayer. She’s the new weekend sports anchor-reporter replacing Harvey Smilovitz.
Pachmeyer is a 1995 Princeton H.S. grad who was a news writer and sports producer at WKRC-TV after graduating from UK in 1999. She left four years ago to be an on-air reporter at WREG-TV, the CBS affiliate in Memphis. During her first stint at Ch. 12, she helped cover the NCAA basketball tourney, the Motor City Bowl, Reds, Bengals and high school sports.
She was Princeton’s head cheerleader when her brother, Michael, played football for the Vikings. The WREG-TV web site www.wreg.com has this quote from her: “I can’t actually call being a Sports Reporter my job. It’s my life-long passion.” She signs off Sunday in Memphis and starts next week at Local 12.
Smilovitz left Sunday after 8 years. His contract was not renewed.

Tee It Up for Ruth
Ch. 5 and the American Amateur Golf Tour has teamed up for the Ruth Lyons Amateur Championship July 1-2 at The Vineyards. This is not to be confused with the annual Ruth Lyons golf outing fund-raiser held each fall. This event for serious golfers is open to any amateur with a verifiable USGA handicap. You don’t have to be a member of the tour to enter. Ch. 5 attached the Ruth Lyons name to the tournament to promote the station’s 66-year-old charity to a different audience. Lyons was Cincinnati’s biggest TV star in the 1950s and 1960s, hosting a live noon variety show simulcast on Ch. 5 and WLW-AM.

Matt & Britney
Gee, I bet Matt Lauer really misses Katie Couric. She would have been stuck with the Britney Spears interview today, if she were still at NBC. It airs on “Dateline NBC” at 9 p.m. today (Ch. 5), instead of a “Windfall” rerun.

Gee and what demo is 12 going for?

She better be good. The comparisons to Cammy will be made...but, then again, math is hard.

Reading her bio, it looks like we'll be treated to special "Friday Night Finals" this fall.

Gimme a B, gimme a R, gimme a E-A-K! Whazitspell? Rayyyyyy!

Lisa wasn't a cheerleader at Princeton HS.

"...breaking that class ceiling"

Huh???

WCPO/Ch. 9 has had female sports anchors for years...Dee Lynam, Kathrine Nero, Paula Faris, Lisa CornWELL.

And didn't Cammy do sports at 12 years back?

It's obvious 12 is trying to reach a younger demo by their recent moves. And I bet there will be more major changes in the years to come with more old faces changing shows or moving on. It looks to me like they are trying to stockpile younger people now, especially people from the Cincinnati area. Cammy moves off mornings and they bring in young Anna. Then Jude left and replaced him with another young weather guy who’s from the area and then hired that traffic guy who used to be on 64 doing movies and now this young girl who also happens to be from here. All of them have to be under 35. If I were an older person at 12 I would be worried.

well just because she is woman doesnt mean she cant do the sports segment.

Look at some of the male sports anchors like dave lapham for 5 When he anchors a sports segment he does a horrible job.

Yeah, when he's not doing commercials. Sounds like if you are an ex-Bengal and you do sports on 5, you have to do commercials.

Everybody is trying to reach a younger demo - especially the advertisers who spend the money. Duh!

Cammy is good no matter if she's doing sports or news. Female sportscasters do just fine. Look at all the female sideline reporters they have on ESPN that do an excellent job.

Don't be talking bad about my man Dave Lapham. I happen to think he is an excellent commentator for the Bengals. I always turn down the sound on the TV for the Bengals games....those announcers are terrible & listen to Brad & Dave on 92.5 radio even tho the TV action is delayed. It's annoying but I'm used to it.

Does anybody like her? I don't.....I don't like when she said "pulled a hammie."

Harvey....where are you!

I think that Tara does a good job reporting the sports....She's got an eastern-European name, but a Meditteranean look. I wonder what her background is....She's also sporting a ring lately. I had noticed a lack of one before. Hey, I'm a single guy, what do you expect?....It seems like Cincinnati is ahead of the curve with female sports reporters, whether on the sidelines, or at the desk, and I don't mind it at all...It does feel somewhat weird to hear a female rattling off sports stuff, but hey, that's okay!....(L.S.R.
