WOXY.com up for Station of Year Again

More good news for www.WOXY.com. The Internet station came back from the dead last month with the help of a new investor… and now it has been nominated for "station of the year" by the Plug Independent Music Awards. Actually, www.WOXY.com has been nominated twice, for station of year and for "podcast of the year" for its Lounge Act concert series.
Voting is open to anyone, so folks at the station encourge you to cast your ballot at http://www.plugawards.com WOXY.com is listed under "Media Categories (obsessive)."
WOXY.com was honored as Plug’s "station of the year" in 2005, after only six months on the air as an web-only station from downtown Cincinnati.

If you're wondering what that sound is, it is the sound of nobody giving a damn what WOXY is airing right now.

Internet radio winning awards? What's next? Covering great journalism being done on people's MySpace accounts?

It's relevant because woxy.com is continuing its award-winning ways by providing a musical format that isn't controlled by anyone outside of the building - and delivering it with a passion.

If you don't like it, then so be it. But some of us are sick and tired of hearing 'Sweet Home Alabama' on the terrestrial airwaves for the 3 billionth time in this market.

FWIW, I agree with the original poster. This isn't media news. John can cover what he wants, but anyone with a high-bandiwdth connection and a can-do attitude can do internet radio.

Its a narrowcasting format that just isn't relevant in the bigger media picture, IMO.

first of all anonymous 1 and 2 share the same shortsightedness and are showing their age. there are plenty of people who care about internet radio because the FM dial is going the way of the dinosaur and satellite radio has all the charisma of your 6 cd changer on shuffle. if you do not recognize these simple facts then no, you would not be interested in WOXY, nor would you be interested in a larger movement of how technology serves those looking for non-corporate driven musical options.
The 'bigger media picture' will tell you tomorrow on the Bob and Tom show and then later on WCPO morning news who won on Dancing with the Stars, so if that is your idea of relevant, have at it, clones.
