Tom Gamble Getting the Gig

No suprise here: Tom Gamble, who has hosted WLW-AM's "SportsTalk" since Andy Furman was fired in early November, soon will be announced as the official permanent host. Darryl Parks, operations director for Clear Channel's AM stations here, says he's close to a deal with Gamble. "Nothing is signed yet, but we're working on it."
Gamble confirms today that a deal will be announced very soon.
Gamble, 43, a former Kentucky Post sports editor, had been co-host of the "Two Angry Guys" morning show with Richard Skinner on sister station WCKY-AM (HOMER 1530). By moving Gamble to WLW, Clear Channel didn't disrupt the Homer sports lineup too much. Skinner works solo in the morning, and Lance McAlister is quite popular in afternoon drive.
I think he's done a pretty good job so far. He can be a bit bombastic, but not as over-the-top theatrical as Furman was (just to light up the phones?).
So here's a poll question you won't get on Lance's show:
Who do you listen to the most? Tom Gamble on WLW? Lance McAlister on Homer? Andy Furman on SupertalkFM96.5? Any why?

Used to listen to Lance until his ego grew to be the size of the Bank One Towers. His show has dropped in quality and he's becoming more bitter and elitist. Thats why I made the switch to Furman, who I also can't stand, but I can stand him much more than the man who eternally lives in Pleasantville, except when they want to build a jail there.

I used to listen to Lance by default but his show has always frustrated me!

I have not listened to Lance since Andy's show debuted on SuperTalk. I listened to Andy on WLW and enjoy him even more now on SuperTalk. I haven't listened to "Sports Talk" on WLW since Andy was fired.

I listen to furman every day, he is by far the best sports talkshow host.
Lance throws outs stats, but also talks bout what his wife and casey watched on tv last night.

Gamble talks about colerain way to much in football season. He also talks bout hot newspeople.

I agree with all the other comments. I used to listen to Lance by default even though he annoyed the heck out of me (Casey, tv, etc - I don't care!!... plus his stuttering is irritating - "I-I-I-I-I"). I've tried Furman lately and, surprisingly, he wasn't too bad. I wish we could get something like the Dan Patrick Show down here.

Of the 3, I listen to Lance, but his show has gotten stale. I have really started enjoying Skinny in the mornings more and more. He doesn't put up with idiot callers and usually knows when to get off of a topic if it isn't working. Gamble just doesn't work by himself. He struggles to fill time - repeating himself and "teasing" what is coming up just to fill out the segment. I've breifly listened to Furman since his return, but I've never been a fan, never will be. He isn't as knowledgable as he thinks he is - and his audience isn't very intelligent either.

I don't listen to WLW or Homer at all. I found Furman because I listen to Dave Ramsey on SuperTalk who is on right before Furman. Now that I listen to Furman, I wonder what all the hub-bub was about. He seems like a very nice guy. I find him to be informative and genuine. I guess I'm not a good voter becasue I've never listened to the other tow, but I just wanted to vote: I'm for Furman!

If WLW wants an incredible sports talkshow, I would add Skinner and Chris Gramke to Tom Gamble and Sportstalk on WLW.

For those that don't know, Gamble started out broadcasting (or cablecasting) on Storer/TKR Cable doing "The Press Box". It made for an interesting half hour, even without phone calls. Slamming the Reds, the Bengals (and Mike Brown) and a real discussion about sports made the show. I would challenge Mr. Parks into experimenting with the trio....and if you can't get Gramke, add Don Weber to the mix (he's still with Insight/TKR/Storer).

They should rename Lance's show "Family Talk" and put him on Warm 98.

Gamble's OK, but he'll get the summer off once baseball starts.

That 4-7 slot for Furman is perfect for my listening pleasure. What he does that the other two rarely do, is give you good guests, instead of listening to ignorant callers all the time.

The only time Lance or Gamble have a guest is if the guest is pushing a book or some oddball sports event.

The beauty of Gamble was Skinner. The beauty of Skinner was Gamble. Breaking them up was a mistake. Neither has the wallop of both together.
Why did they mess with a good thing?!

To me, just adding Skinner to it and reuniting the Angry Guys would be fine with me. You can have Gramke or Weber do Richard's morning show...

The Dan Patrick Show can be heard on 1450 ESPN Radio out of Hamilton. You can also hear Mike and Mike and all of the other ESPN Radio Programming. It is sometimes pre-empted for Miami sports and some high school sports, but that's in the evenings.

I first heard Lance when he was in Chicago and just never got into the rhythm of his show. Same here in Cincinnati. I listen to Andy Furman on Supertalk and am glad to have him on during a time I have more radio access than I did at his old time. I have always found Andy to be entertaining and he still gets great guests.

About Dan Patrick and Mike & Mike: I've been surprised by the signal strength of Hamilton's ESPN 1450. I listened to Mike & Mike all the way in to work down I-75 to Second Street again today. You can't get it at night, but the daytime signal is pretty good between Hamilton and downtown.

skinner some in morning...mike and mike do not come in well in morn though i like them when i can hear them...
colin cowherd on espn1450 at lunch...signal better during day...
lance on way home...flip to furman if homer goes early to uk or louisville games...not really a fan of furman...he's not that informed...has always mis-stated info...
gamble some in eve ... never if seg is on-seg has trouble speaking and that is a problem on a talk show ...doc filling in last night was good ...

Andy is getting some big name interviews. I think he is heads above Gamble. Gamble whines too much, and talks about things that are trivial. I like Lance, too. But until the Reds take over the evenings on WLW, I will be with Andy on 96.5

...I thought Tim Lewis was back in town. I vote for the Big Dog over any of these guys. When he was on the Score, and Bob...he was the stuff. Did he have all the stats that Lance did, NO, but he was far more entertaining. And his interviews were always compelling. I met him a couple of times at BOB events and he was always courteous and friendly, a real Big Dog. We need him back on the air somewhere. Mr. Parks, put him with Gamble...that would solid!

Chris Gramke? Shouldn't he go back to doing PR work for high schools or agate for The Post?
