Rosie O'Donnell Leaving "The View"

Rosie O'Donnell is leaving "The View" after less than a year. She just announced it today on the show, saying it was a contract dispute. ABC wanted her to sign a 3-year contract, and Rosie said she only wanted one more year. She says she'll do some TV specials in the future on issues that she cares about.
Here is the link to the ABCnews.com report this moring before the show aired:
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=3077493&page=1
She'll leave the show in mid-June. In a statement, host/exec producer Barbara Walters says "the departure was an amicable one."
Do you believe that, given her feud with Trump? And her ripping Rupert Murdoch at the NY Women in Communication awards banquet Monday?
Will you miss her?
Who should ABC hire to replace Rosie?

This show is going to collapse. They never found a replacement for "...and I'm a Law-ya" Star Jones. Rosie was the replacement for Meredith, and now they have to replace Rosie.

Like her or not, Rosie brought star ratings to the show that Star Jones never could, or even Meredith for that matter. Is anyone really going to tune in for any of those other three Yentas?

It's about time. She gets owned by Trump every time she attacks him. After her profanity laced speech and her gestures during the speech the other day in front of a young crowd she had to go.

Also mention she questions the 911 story (of which she should) which is the likely reason she was not renewed.

I hope more people like her continue to question 911 and the 3,000 dead people who won Bush re-election.

The only political "capital" bush has had is 911 and he has overdrawn too many checks on it.

God Bless Rosie and Damn Emperor Bush and the artificial christians.

Yeah, right, that's got to be it. It can't have anything to do with the fact that she's an annoying blowhard. In fact, I read somewhere that Karl Rove had Alberto Gonzales tell ABC to not renew her contract under Bush's orders.

I am home during the day and since a certain local talk show host has become syndicated and more arrogant than ever, I have taken to turning on the tv at 11AM to catch the View.

At times Rosie makes me cringe with her anger and ponficating. It's not always WHAT she says but HOW she says it...still she needs a filter.

That said, she could absolutely make me laugh out loud at times but I felt she steamrolled over the other panel.

But w/o her, the show will fade into oblivion.

The show needs an ESTABLISHED panel with good chemistry (no easy feat) They never found a replacement for Star and the rotating host deal is getting old...and when they used folks from the audience, I think they should've taken an IQ test first! (Ouch!)

Off the top of my head I can think of nobody FUN and colorful to fill in...Whoopi can be fun on TV but I know she has some syndicated radio deal she says she enjoys doing.

But maybe a good replacement will come to me later.

Rosie was like a yin and yang deal for me...sometimes I really liked her and LAUGHED OUT LOUD..other times I cringed and wanted to give her a spanking or send her to her room to think about what she said.

I try not to take what people say too seriously but sometimes these celebrities and their platforms do grown weary.

donald was right on Rosie - what is the fascination with her? A loud mouthed man-hater.

She is awful. So far left and uninformed on many things. Onward and Upward. Now what to do with Katie Couric?

Regardless, "The View" has run its course and will eventually do off the air. O'Donnell was the last straw for me. The only person worth watching is Elizabeth. I watched the show daily until the Star Jones ruined it for me. I never it did watch the show since O'Donnell. Mentioning the ratings, I have to believe they were not as good as they say...anyone will watch a "train wreck" for awhile.

ANYBODY! Replace her with ANYBODY! And, why wait till June?

Unlike the anonymous poster, I'm proud to post under my name. Anonymous 9/11 conspirator has some serious issues. Catch a plane to France, please.
Regarding Rosie, it's a shame to see how angry and hateful and venomous she's gotten. Her own talk show was fun and enjoyable. I think her aura of nastiness and unhappiness happened after she left her show. I'm not sure if things in her personal life interfered, but either way, The View sucked before Rosie, was unwatchable during Rosie and will be awful after Rosie. She's a mean, nasty, miserable human being. Who wants to watch that every morning? Liz Hasselbeck was the only bright spot in the lineup. Joy Bahar, I disagree with on most things, but at least she had a likeability factor. Rosie should go crawl in a hole and not come back out.

It's about time she is leaving. She is arrogant and obnoxious. It probably wasn't an amicable parting. The less I see of her, the better

To God:

You answered this just one prayer, now can I get a million bucks. One out of two isn't bad.

GFL-Rosie.

rumor has it rosie wants her old talk show back. That was a great talk show.

I think that Megan Mullally would make a great addition to the show. She could not hold her own show but she was good at certain segments. Her insight and humor would gel well with the view.

I wonder if it was really that they couldn't agree on a new contract, or was it ABC decided to not renew her contract (like Star Jones) and told her what ever reason you come up with, we will back you up. Personally, I think Rosie totally took over the show. Yes the ratings went up, but I have trouble listening to all the fighting and feuds. Rosie leaving is no big loss (IMO).

Allegedly, months ago when Rosie heard Bab's did not defend her to Trump, Rosie was GONE as soon as her contract was up.

Here is the scoop...allegedly. I for one can believe this. ABC offered her BIG BUCKS but she is lots richer than Walters.

From SophiaZ in Fairfield

Sorry John...I just hit submit to realize the address link did not work. This is from Fox news Roger Friedman's (a VERY RELIABLE GUY) column today about why Rosie is really leaving.

He said back in January Rosie would be leaving today..go to Drudge Report and scroll down to Roger Friedman's column for today the 25th or go to Fox News. The story is there.

ABC offered her 10 mil a year and she refused.

p.s. Thanks for giving us this blog, John. : -)

Glad Rosie is gone...Like the Megan Mullally idea...and for Anon 11:55, if you have an issue with a certain talk host on AM it is probably because he made too much sense. Sometimes arrogance is substituted for being right by those who don't want to admit they are wrong. As Jim Rome says...war McConnell!!!

I will miss her. She brought a new "view" and has made me think about what we are being fed by the media. I hope she does something else. I am not sure who to replace her with, but hopefully someone who can stand their ground!

I enjoyed McConnell the FIRST FIFTEEN YEARS OR SO...but the arrogance and the disdain for his callers has gotten old for me but that is my age showing.

But back to Rosie, Megan might be a good addition...I never saw her talk show.

Somebody I heard suggested Kathy Griffin! Yikes..she has been kicked off of most all talk shows including Regis for being too foul!

Rosie was a blithering idiot...she no longer has a forum to spew her caustic venom and I am pleased as punch! She is completely irrelevant and I think she should join Cheryl "One Square of Toilet Paper will Do Ya" Crow on the bus to nowhere...

How about Campbell Brown to replace Rosie? She's very smart and likeable.

Megan Mullaly I think would be great.

Then again, I think they should hire Don Imus. :)

To ANON 5:25...Campbell Brown should have gotten the job that Katie Curic now has.

How about Michael Flannery? :) David Rose? :)

Sorry, I could resist....

FYI - ABC offered her $10 million over THREE years. Rosie wanted it for ONE.

ABC is stupid. Rosie increased the ratings by almost 20-percent. More importantly she increased the buzz factor of the show. (That's probably more important than the ratings these days.)

A liberal replacement counterpart: Sharon Stone

(Her movie career is pretty much over, but I'm not sure she would want to live in NYC.)

How about Sheila Gray. Then, we can all marvel over those huge teeth and that silly constant smile. Yuck

Megan M. would be great - her show was good, but in a bad time slot locally. She is witty, smart and funny. At this point, I would just like to PLEASE see someone NOT from New York. We get enough of the New York perspective in the media. The "feud" btw The Donald and Rosie - everybody in the WORLD makes fun of Donald's hair - why was he so threatened by Rosie's comments and why does he need to resort to attacking her physical appearance?? He is no stud. Only someone so incredibly insecure need to constantly brag about his achievements - "I've built the biggest" this and "I've got the number one" that and "I've got the most"...Junior high.

I have written Barbara Walters on a number of occasions regarding Rosie dragging "The View" into the gutter. In my opinion Rosie was a miserable pick as the show's moderator. Her over bearing personality was ugly and she definitly crossed over the lines in all controversial arenas. I'm sorry but I don't believe that her leaving the show was due to contract disagreements. As I see it ABC had enough and gave her the opportunity to bow out gracefully.

I used to really like Rosie's humor but she has become so hostile and opinionated and drags on and on about her children and the war and Bush. Once twice - ten time but stop already. Her aggression particularly toward Elizabeth is embarrassing. After seeing guest hostess Lady Sarah Fergueson the other day - there is your replacement for Rosie. She actually took control at one point and herded the shouting, babbling ladies back on track. She brings and elegance, intellegence and zany wit to the show.
