Why Did Melinda Doolittle Go Home?

I can't get anything done at work today because everyone is talking about "American Idol" last night. I had figured -- and so had many others - that Melinda Doolittle would make it to the final two next week. But she went home last night...

Long before I knew Melinda's mom was from Cincinnati, and her dad from Hamilton, I thought she was the best singer this season. In the last couple of weeks, though, I was disappointed that she didn't have more of a stage presence, compared to Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. But I figured she'd be there in the end with Jordin.

But it's reality TV, and quite unpredictable, and that's one of the reasons we watch. ("Survivor" fans had figured that Yau-Man would make it all the way, too.)

Did you think Melinda would make it to the finals, or win it all? So why was Melinda voted out last night? Who will win? And who would you pay to see perform in concert or buy a CD: Blake? Melinda? Jordin?

Melinda's a singer, not an entertainer. She doesn't have a stage presence and what charm she has is of the "awww, shucks, you really like me..." variety and that will only take a person so far.

I agree with the above post but like John, I thought she would be in the final two. None of this year's men seemed ineteresting enough to go all the way.

who would buy an album from melinda doolittle? she's utterly boring, utterly predictable and utterly forgettable. her voice and style is exactly the same as every other r&b gospel style singer.

that aside, she's almost 30 and horribly unattractive. i'm not sure how you would market a singer who looks like Princess Fiona.

It's simple, Jordin and Blake have all the tweens and teens voting for them. Melinda appealed to the adults who are far less likely to be calling/texting in to vote for her.

I saw GO Blake! :)

I keep thinkign Blake is a bit overrated every week, but can see why he made it to the finals. He's a good performer, and the kids like him.

Doolittle is a great singer and good performer also. Winning American Idol anymore isn't that big of a deal really. Taylor Hicks won last year, but his CD isn't doing as well as others who finished 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Jordin Sparks should and probably will win though I think. Her voice is amazing. I think she has the most potential. She is the first to remind of Kelly Clarkson in a long time.

Melinda went home, because as others have stated, she appeals to adults who are less likely to vote (at least compared to the amount of teens voting. Jordin and Blake appeal to the teens and young adults so they win by popularity.

I have been a fan of Jordin's since the begininng and thought she has been great, but Tuesday night she was terrible and I thought based on performance she should have been gone.

I am sure Melinda will do well for herself, I wouldn't be surprised if Simon signed her - he seemed to like her the best.

All I really want to say is wow to the mark comment. You aren't a very shallow person are you?

Melinda's departure should be no surprize if you follow voter logic and not go by talent. Look back a week and whose left then figure out where those votes go next. This week Melinda did not gather the votes from Lekisa fans... so for next week the question is who gets Melinda's votes now. I say they go to Blake because if you didn't already vote for Jordon, you are not going to start now. So Blake picks up all of Melinda's votes.
Of course there's the other theory. The producers decide who wins by who would generate buzz. This week's lost had to be Melinda because she is the only one who creates buzz. If Blake was out no buzz. Jordon out... no buzz!!!! This theory explains how Sangya lasted so long!?!

Well, I for one and many others will not watch the finals. The voting system has to be changed for me and others to watch again. I tried to call in (land line)for Melinda for over 30 minutes and could not get through. I would like to know if others had this problem. Blake and Jordin are okay, but do not have the range and ability to be a real star. Example, Taylor H. vs Chris D., who is the bigger, more successful of the two? Melinda will still succeed, but was robbed by stupid voting system...........

Hell, you American's - wadda ya thinkin guys. Melinda is the best thing coming out of, not just American Idol, but the US of A - full stop! I am a Brit (well, Scottish actually) and I love AI, so you can imagine the shock when Melinda was voted off - she has a big following in the UK and I know her career will go into orbit (if Simon has anything to do with it). Jordin to win and Blake (GO HOME GUY, YOU CAN'T CUT IT!). As for Mark's rude comments about comparing Melinda to Princess Fiona - have you noticed, Mark, that when Blake sings he aint got no lips, or is it just that you simply relate to him when you look in the mirror?

You guys are all ignorant. This is a singing competition, not a beauty pageant. As far as stage presence is concerned, it's the emotion of the song that the singer can successfully convey that makes the difference between an average singer and a fantastic performer. You guys are a bunch of ignorant idiots who most likely would have voted Pamela Anderson as the next American Idol. And if you didn't get my double entendre about Pam, then I make no apologies for calling you ignorant. Melinda is the best voice to come through this competition yet. She's the most REAL person to go out there and give us the best she's got to give. If you can't appreciate that and can only pass judgement based on appearance, then by all means go out to the busiest street in your town and drop your pants. Let's see how many votes you can get after that.

To Mark: You must really dislike yourself to write something as nasty as you did about Melinda - who is truly a beautiful woman and the most amazing talent ever to cross the AI stage. Self-hatred births hatred for others. I feel sorry for you!

In my opinion Melinda is the best! The best in all seasons. The best that AI ever had. If anyone don't think so, then I guess there's something really wrong with your hear/ music ability.
