Cool Iggy Pop Clip From '70s Cincinnati TV

Someone posted a YouTube link on the radio ratings blog earlier today of a 1970 Cincinnati rock concert clip featuring Iggy Pop (then called Iggy and the Stooges). I'm starting a new string here, so you can help identify it. The clip is called "Midsummer Rock TV 6/13/70 Iggy Pop & the Stooges."
http://youtube.com/watch?v=dXKP_FOrlSA

Actor/announcer Jack Lescoulie, who was at Ch. 5 in the late 1960s, is the host of this telecast, called "Midsummer Rock." He chats with a TV reporter named Bob Waller. I don't recognize the setting. The June 13 date would be two weeks before Riverfront Stadium opened. Is it Crosley Field? Carthage Fairgrounds?

Look at the 9-minute clip and see if you can provide any details. Do you remember the concert? The venue? Lescoulie? Waller? Was it a live telecast? I know somebody can fill us in!

Grand Funk Railroad also perfomed at this show, which by the way was an all day event...The last event at Crosley Field before it was torn down.

If it happened in 1970 and had "hippie" in the title, Bo Wood will know, and Rick Byrd quite well may, too. Oh, and a guy named Knippenberg probably covered it.

Knip tells me he doesn't remember it. He's the first guy I asked...

The $64,000 question (this is a TV blog) is WHAT Knip remembers....
Especially from those aging hippy days.

What's really amazing here is that 37 years later Iggy Pop is still alive.

I was 9 and remember watching it on TV and being scared when the peanut butter was being thrown.

it was definately at Crosley, and it seems I recall that an FM station, probably 'EBN, did a simulcast in stereo. Why in the world they had Lesculie hosting it, I'll never know..in a suit and tie, no less.

June 13 - Saturday: "Mike Quatro and Ross Gibb present Cincinnati Summer (Pop) Festival I" featuring The Stooges, Mountain, Grand Funk Railroad, Alice Cooper, Traffic, Mighty Quick, Bob Seger, Mott The Hoople, Ten Years After, Bloodrock, Savage Grace, Brownsville Station, Zephyr, Damnation Of Adam Blessing. Three Dog Night was originally scheduled to be the headliner that day, but cancelled at the last minute. There is a link that has a copy of the ticket stub here --> http://bs.angeltowns.com/1970.html

Yes, it was at Crosley Field, and as I recall an all day event. Probably the worst casting for announcers ever imagined. Jack was incredulous at some of the activities (Iggy smearing peanut butter on his armpits....)
It was so bad that I remember laughing at the dialog. Even a 12 year old knew more than they did!
But you have to give the station credit for airing it in the first place. I'm not sure they would do something that unconventional these days.

This event produced at least two notorious rock'n'roll incidents. First, Iggy lathering up with the peanut butter. (A still from this show of Iggy standing on the fan's hands and pointing has become a rather famous photo). Second, Alice Cooper getting hit, right in the kisser, with a cake during his "hypnotism" routine.

In the interest of giving a very talented technician the benefit of having his name spelled correctly, it is: Jack Cunkleman. (Not Lou Kunkleman)

Bob Waller did Reds games on Channel 5 in 1971 with Tom Hedrick

I was there. I remember a bunch of kids piling onto the top of the dugout and it caved in. Brownsville Station rocked the house, as did Joe Cocker. Wow, flashback.
