Time Warner Adds TBS HD For Baseball Playoffs

Good news for HDTV owners with Time Warner Cable: TBS HD will be added by Time Warner on Wednesday, in time for the baseball playoffs.

TBS HD will debut Wednesday as Channel 980 on the HD standard tier. It will be available at no additional charge to Time Warner subscribers who have standard HDTV service or above, a HDTV set and HDTV receiver, says Karen Baxter, local Time Warner public affairs director.

The two National League Division Series begin Wednesday on TBS. In a change from past years, TBS has TV rights to all of the National and American League Division Series games.

TBS also has the Rockies-Padres playoff game at 7:30 p.m. today. There's a chance that TBS HD will be up by then, so HDTV customers should check Channel 980 tonight too. (Baxter says TBS HD definitely will be available by Wednesday.)

TBS will have the National League Championship Series (Oct. 11-20), while Fox broadcasts the American League Championship Series (Oct. 12-21) and the World Series (starting Oct. 24).

Northern Kentucky’s Insight cable does not offer TBS in HDTV.

So, we get TBS-HD in time for the playoffs. Is this supposed to make up for a lack of FSN-Ohio-HD? What I see is that Time Warner Cable is lining its own pocket by adding another network owned by its parent company, Time Warner (TBS is owned by Time Warner).

It would have been nice to see the Reds in HD this season (not sure what Bronson Arroyo is thinking we he switched to TWC). Just as important, we have already been missing college football on FSN-HD and are going to be missing a season of college basketball on FSN-HD as well. Then there is the BigTen Network and NFL Network we are missing (both in High Definition). See any pattern here? TWC is interested in adding HD channels only its parent company owns.

Whether you do or don't receive HD for FSN is not the big problem. The big problem is the fact that MLB sold out the NLCS games from over the air to a second rate cable station. That is unconscionable that Bud Selig would do that to the fans. What about those who do not have cable or satellite? They are out of luck if they are a fan of the National League. Very weak Bud!

Not that I'm a fan of Selig but Anon 10:59 doesn't give the whole story. The new contract MLB signed with FOX has the Wolrd series continuing on FOX affiliates, and the league champsionship series alternating year to year. This year the ALCS is on FOX. Next the NLCS will be on FOX. I suppose MLB could have gone to another broadcast network for the alternate years and kept everything OTA but it's not as if the NLCS will never again be on a broadcast network.

WOW, I would never expect a TIME WARNER channel to show up on TIWE WARNER CABLE! That would make too much sense.

I think what Anon 10:59 was meaning that ANY baseball playoff is not on over the air, is wrong. This year, it happens to be the NLCS, next year it switches. Either way, it sucks! That would be the point I am assuming was being made.

Nobody's asking the big question -- and Time Warner isn't answering it -- and that's why are there so few HD channels on Time Warner Cable? I get 13, and that's with paying for Showtime and HBO. DirecTV says they'll offer 100 by the end of the year. When I talk to the bimbos Time Warner employs for its customer services lines, they know nothing.

Not all FSN games were in HD. Many of the so called "HD" games were simply in 16x9 SD (anamorphic).

I get 14 HD channels in prime time with just my antenna.

25 Million people in this country don't have cable or satellite and most likely can't afford it. My choice was between internet or cable. I chose the internet. So MLB hasn't shown anyone other than high-market teams on it's Saturday broadcasts (only saw the Reds once, and that was the last game of the season), has sold it's playoff rights so you HAVE to afford paying for it, and has pretty much matched the NBA for greed. The NFL is following suit. So really, who cares about a sport that doesn't care about all of it fans?

TBS coverage of the playoff stinks they have gotten the information wrong & the announcers are idiots. I hope MLB NEVER signs with them again. I have to mute the idiots so I can watch but they get the video worng too!!!!! Show the wrong score for example..........
