Doyel Done At 1530 Homer

You won't hear Gregg Doyel on WCKY-AM (1530 Homer) any more.

Doyel, who co-hosted 9 a.m.-noon with Mo Egger, was fired today in a budget cut. Egger will continue to host solo, says program director Dave Armbruster.

"It was just part of our budget cuts. I didn't want to do it. I think he was getting a lot better," Armbruster says.

Egger and Doyel debuted in May, after the station fired Richard Skinner, half of the "Two Angry Guys." Doyel, a Fairfield resident, is a national columnist for CBS Sports' CBSSportsline. He briefly co-hosted WLW-AM’s "Sunday Morning SportsTalk" with Ken Broo, but voluntarily left the show this fall because he was traveling too much for CBS, Armbruster says.

No loss. Doyle was a clown and a joke. Compared to the angry guys, those guys can't even pump their gas.

To Dave Armbruster: What took you so long. You said you thought he was getting better. What show were you listening to?

Thank god!

What a disaster this radio market has become. I feel for the folks that work in the industry; the folks that work for next to nothing are the ones getting poo'ed upon. Merry Christmas broadcast industry.

I had just starting really liking these guys together. It seems like 1530 keeps shooting themselves in the foot!

I don't know if anyone listened to the Skyline Chili VIP broadcast the other night but Furman had a guy on there by the name of Chad Brendel I think, anyway he was very solid. I wish someone would give him a shot because he sounded like he had a clue about what he was talking about. Time for fresh blood in this market. I am tired of retreds.

Poor Clear Channel Cincinnati. Maybe they should of kept Lib Talk on the air. At least Lib talk had better ratings than the current programming on WCKY.

Armbruster has fired more people than anyone in Clear Channel history it seems. Hey Yid!! Excellent programming choices. Guess Mo is next or God forbid Lance!!! Watch your back boys.

Since the Clear Channel exodus continues, with sales guys forming their own agency and such, it seems such a shame to have spent all of the money to renovate the 6th floor of that building. They could have taken half the space and still had room for expansion.

Doyel was a clown and should have been completely canned when he left Sunday Morning SportsTalk.

Mo Egger is a joke. Doyle was Ok and should stick to the internet.

Egger only got the job because they can pay him $6.50 an hour and give him free tickets to games.

Now that Dave Armbruster has some positive momentum, it's time for him to finish the job. Mo Egger needs to be fired. He doesn't have a clue what he's doing and his voice is more annoying than Andy Furman or Paul Daugherty. MO MUST GO!! MO MUST GO!!!

Can you believe how they have screwed up a 50,000 watt station? When is a local radio station going to bring in people who have never been in this market and the hell with all these conservative tight ass mayberrians. 700 WLW is sad how it has become. Then that waste Mo at 9am on 1530 makes one wonder where do I get a xm radio.

I enjoyed Doyel and Egger 100xs more than the tired, lame 2 angry guys. It seems that Clear Channel has no clue on how to run a business, firing people left and right.

Well that sucks. I thought Doyel and Egger had developed a nice rapport. I thought the show skewed to the 30 and under crowd with MMA and stuff like that, but I'm 30. I liked it.

Were they the best on the radio? Probably not. But they were different at least.

Sports radio is a niche market in any town. Where I live in DC it's usually around 18-20 overall. Mo is not good by himself, he needs someone to set him up. And Alan Cutler is a nice guy but come on. Lance has a very good show for a mid-size market like Cincinnati. I'm pro-business but corporations like Clear Channel, Infinity and Cumulus have made radio almost completely unenjoyable.

"He was getting a lot better"

HOW COULD HE HAVE GOTTEN ANY WORSE?

"It was just part of our budget cuts"

HOW MUCH COULD THEY HAVE BEEN PAYING HIM? $6.50 AN HOUR FOR 3 HOURS. 78 DOLLARS A WEEK. BIG SAVINGS.

This is what happens when you let a traffic reporter make decisions. He should stick to the Reds games and that nasty ol' cut-in-the-hill.

Unfortunately, his boss is even more inept at quality radio decision-making, so I guess it's really no help.

Doyel might not have been polished but he clearly was the better of the 2 hosts. Egger is the worst sports personality in Cincinnati sports talk history. How this guy has continually failed upwards is beyond me. At no point when he guest hosted others shows did he prove to be competent. And yet he was given this slot. I figured they teamed him with Doyel as to hide his obvious inadequacies. However this move clearly shows that quasi nepotism is how Armbruster runs that station. Thank god for the internet. Now we are no longer forced to listen to local crap. Streaming radio saves lives people! (Or at least saves your ears from sub par efforts like Egger)

The show sounds better without doyel... plus his blog was always empty...

I just love how Clear Channel takes the wonderful consideration about the actual "people" when they fire them. They have done this the past two years right at the Christmas holiday season.....Happy Holidays to Jeff Piecoro, John Phillips, Greg Doyel, Greg Waddell, and many more that I cannot remember. I bet they have lost over 200 people within the past year. I just do not know how a company can get away with how they operate. What a joke........

Gregg was not willing to clean the bathrooms and make coffee so therefore Clear Channel could not justify keeping someone around who does not multi task. Mo does multiple jobs at the station and makes $7.25 an hour.....Alan Cutler is part of the Bengals Radio Network and also has his Lexington TV gig......Lance will probably be moved over to WLW once Burbank goes away and 1530 Homer will R.I.P. due to "budget cutbacks". What a great world the radio business has become within the past 4 years. Oh, Happy Holidays to everyone who was canned once again right at the holidays.

I'm sure that Gregg is a swell guy, but, at that job, he was just terrible...but Mo was no better...that said, Mo does lots of other things for CC, producing, and the like.

Corporate Radio SUCKS....

Is there anybody alive out there?

Radio Nowhere.

That Chad guy on with Furman was great. And no, he didnt pay me to say that. Give him a shot!

Wow, I thought Doyel was fabulous. It took me a while to get used to him, but once I did I really liked him. The rapport he and Mo had was great, and it was refreshing to hear someone give an honest opinion on sports instead of all the other yes-men on the station.

I'm sure Mo will do well on his own, but man, I will really miss Gregg.

When you air a jerk like Doyle who's demeanor is that of belittlement and talking down to people and Egger who's sophomoric approach to everything abundantly clear, you're bound for failure. Clear Channel obviously didn't listen to it's fan base, and that's why "Big Dog" failed and the "Cutman" is going to fail as well.

Thanks Clear Channel for forcing me to satellite, while it might cost me a little in the pocket at least I'll be entertained.

Doyel was unlistenable, Egger is bad too.

The whole station of inbred talkers like pick, egger, waddell, etc seem like junior high talk. the angry guys at least worked hard.

the "cut" man is the worst yet. argues with everyone, shushes them, etc. ultimate homer too.

I will miss Doyel as I usually only turned on Homer to hear him.

Maybe he was too edgy for many, but I certainly enjoyed hearing him bring up issues and viewpoints that no one else would on local radio.

I won't miss Doyle at all. He was condescending blow hard who criticized his management on air. (Talk about a fast track to the door.)
Lance is the worst show host ever, he is not even a sports fan, he is a celebrity and media fan and sports just happens fall in his wheelhouse. Lance's sports predictions and takes are both juvenile and unoriginal. He can't see anything coming until it falls apart at his feet. Some of his callers are so far above his head he doesn't even understand them. I am also tired of twenty minute monologues on some half wit television show I would never watch.

You guys can go on and on about how much you liked or hated the guy, but the simple fact of the matter is the few months we had to endure the Tony Bruno show and were down to only two local shows was brutal. I don't have much faith in these guys to make responsible decisions based on the listeners best interests. As someone who listens to the radio all day at work all I want is stability. And a duo is much more entertaining than a solo act. Allan Cutler is the worst of the bunch.

Please.... McAlister on 700???

Brett Favre set the all-time passing yardage record yesterday, a year after most people wrote him off as dead and the only mention about it was almost 3 hours into the show....... when a caller busted his chops about not mentioning it.

He's too busy drooling over weather personalities to care....

I turned on their show several times and just couldn't get into it. They shot too much from the hip and most of their comments were juvenile. Really silly stuff. Nothing that any serious or intelligent fan would enjoy. I really like local radio sports talk but it has to be kept on an adult level.

at 12/18/2007 8:36 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

In my opinion neither Mo or Greg are good as hosts. Besides the fact that they are usually rather dirty and mean-spirited, Greg really demonstrated his lack of sports knowledge and understadning (with the exception of basketball) with just about every comment. I wish him well in whatever he does from here. However, Mo and Greg's show is the weakest link of 1530's schedule so this is not a big loss for sports fans. In fact, with consisitently plummeting ratings, one can only assume Mo's days are numbered as well. If only Lance could go from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.!

At least these two guys were entertaining together. Definitely some idiots running 1530 and/or clear channel. Duos are way more entertaining to listen to than any solo act (Lance, Rome or anyone!!) But Cutler is by far the worst and rudest host on 1530. He alone makes me turn off the radio instantly. I liked the edginess of Mo and Greg that scared/offended most people but oh well. Back to my zune I guess.

Thank God, Doyell is the absolute worst. Although I'm sure it will be hard to find another voice willing to say outrageous things that he doesn't necessarily believe just to try and piss people off.

What a clown.

at 12/21/2007 9:27 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Doyle had a knack for saying a lot of outrageous things that were downright and irritatingly wrong; I couldn't listen to him during his solo broadcasts. Mo probably is the most knowledgable as well as the most insightful sports commentator I've heard in years, but he was also hard to listen to during his old solo substitute days because he'd spend 30 seconds on sports then 10 minutes on a tirade about why is a red light red. However together I thought they were great.
