Good Morning, CinCW

I was puzzled to see Channel 12 simulcasting its No. 1-rated "Good Morning Cincinnati" news show on the digital CinCW channel this week. I finally figured it out:

On Jan. 7, "The Early Show' drops the hybrid local-national 7-8 a.m. format, so CBS can go head-to-head at 7 a.m. with "Today" and "Good Morning America." So Channel 12's plan is to continue doing the 7 a.m. local show on the CinCW. Channel 12's managers are hoping that habitual viewers will find John Lomax, Anna Townsend and Steve Horstmeyer on Time Warner Channel 20 or Insight Channel 25 at 7 a.m.

It's an interesting move. Certainly the ratings won't match those on Channel 12, but it gives a boost to the digital CW affiliate. And Channel 12 will do a full hour of local news and commercials spots (no cutting away to CBS), rather than surrender the 7 a.m. audience wanting local news to Channel 19.

"When you have a great brand like Local 12 News, and we have another TV station, it makes sense to expand it to the other station," says Steve Minium, acting Channel 12 general manager and former Channel 12 news director.

shhhhhhhhhhhh, be very quiet. If you are quiet you might be able to hear Anna. She talks in a whisper so you need to be quiet.

If she'd read the prompter with the same voice she uses when talking to Herzog, we'd all hear her!

Those of us with digital TV's will also be able to watch the show on channel 12.2. You don't need cable to get it.

Her name is Anna Townsend not Thompson. Like former 12 reporter and Cincinnati native Tracy Townsend, who works as a weekend anchor and reporter at WBNS in Columbus. Tracy is also a better anchor and reporter then Anna. Tracy can pronounce Boudinot, Isphording, Mariemont, Fairmount-not Fairmont in an audible tone, not a whisper. Tracy Townsend would be a better fit for 12 since the departure of Dayna Eubanks. 12 is very thin in the anchor chair when it comes to people of color. 12's John Lomax, Dave Burchell and Angela Ingram are all solid broadcasters. Hey 12, how about adding Tracy Townsend to help round out the best newsroom and the best newscast in town?. Check Tracy out at http://www.10tv.com/?sec=bios&story=10tv/content/static/bios/t_townsend.html

The people on 12's morning program are really good - I enjoy watching them. The snow coverage they had this week was really fun. Anna and Bob are really fitting in with Steve and John.

Tracy Townsend would be awesome. I agree...hire her! 12 does need diversity and Sasha doesn't cut it.

12 does seem like in reporters though....not like it was during Nick's reign.

Tracy, are you pimping yourself out on a message board in Cincinnati? That's an odd way to solicit work.

Whispery voice or not - you can't argue with the overnight numbers, can you?

a new novel concept: enough already with the snow coverage. You would think we get feet instead of fractions of an inch. Reports at the salt pile, side of the road, and talking to motorists stranded are goofy and meaningless. People who come here from places that have real snow must think we are the laughing stock of the world!!! I love it when they tell you dont follow a salt truck, slow down, wear your gloves. Oh God make it stop!!

Anna seems nice. Herzog seems like he is on medication, the girl that fills in for him..can't talk, I guess they think she looks good, so what, I need to get to work. I decided to watch Channel 9, so change channels and don't complain.

Their coverage was FUN? But it was the Great White Death, part XVIII!!!! There's no time for FUN at a time like this!!! Don't you know that people in Cincinnati want seriousness jammed down their throats in the morning? Laughter? Brevity? This is not happy fun time. Life isn't supposed to be FUN!!! No vacations for you, either.

I would expect to see the "Dance Party" gimmick on Channel 5, but not 12. It is dumb.

What do people think of Bernard Watson with Katherine Nero on channel 9? Does he fit in as well as David Rose, Brian Patrick, or Terry Danials? The only thing that I watch the morning news for in the morning is weather anyway. For that I go to Larry Handley on Channel 9.

John,
Why is channel 9 making all of these changes with their TV people. There have been several people that I do not see on there channel anymore (David Rose, Michael Flannery, Brian Patrick, moving Lisa Cornwell to mornings, And now firing Lori Quinilivan). Are they doing this to save money or are the people replacing them inexperienced so they can save money?

What does George Clooney have to do with news?
