News From The Breaking News Center

Here's some breaking news you haven't seen on Channel 9's Breaking News Center: Lisa Cornwell, Channel 9's Breaking News Center reporter since its debut last September, is leaving the station for Knoxville.

Cornwell will co-anchor morning news on Knoxville's WBIR-TV (NBC affiliate Channel 10) next month, after February sweeps end. Here's the WBIR-TV announcement: http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=54322

Cornwell, 33, has been at Channel 9 for nearly two years. Until August, she was a weekend sports anchor and sports reporter. She was moved to morning news when Channel 9 reduced the sports department to two (Dennis Janson, John Popovich) from three. I hear she wasn't happy about being moved to news, so it doesn't surprise me that she's leaving the station.

She definitely was the best female sports anchor in town until her move last year... and one of the best I've seen here. (I liked Kathrine Nero and Cammy Dierking too.)

The girl on 12 with the black hair (don't know her name) is atrocious. How could they even think of putting her on the air. She can't write (tries to be too clever and ends up with too many words saying nothing.She doesn't know how to deliver a sentence. I can't bear to watch it.

Nero was very good. Cornwell was even better.

I'll bet her position gets eliminated.

breaking news...C Trent had it 2 days ago.

The breaking news thing was foolish and never worked. Audiences are tired of breaking and developing news. If it wasn't breaking or developing, it wouldn't be news.

And breaking news just wasn't Cornwell's strength. She's a talented sports reporter, and that's a tough thing to pull off, too. Good luck to her.

Another one bites the dust!

I thought Cornwell did a great job at sports desk. She wasn't bad in her short tenure at the news desk either. I saw her anchor the noon edition today.

Who was the female 9News weekend sports anchor before Cornwell, but after Nero? I can't recall her name, but she was easy on the eyes and did a decent job. (dark hair) Who keeps scaring them away!

I agree Nero did fine, but is a better fit for the mornings.

Is 9News going to pull the plug on the "Breaking News Center?" That gimmick is getting very old. The cable stations are still hanging onto to it as well. Its not breaking when it happened 9 hours ago!

Ch. 12 sports girl is not the top of the line for sure, she seems nice though. Nero is not hot at all even though she kind of has that persona about her. She was better at sports than as an anchor. I have a question for everyone out there, who is your top 10 women of local news, weather or sports. Mine but not in a particular order:
Michelle Boutillette, Sasha Riondo, Sheree Puello, Tanya O'Rourke, Meghan Mongillo, Cindy O'Quinn ( just kidding) Deb Silverman, Becky Fremal, Tricia Macke, and Lauren Berkowich. Tell me what you guys think.

I think everyone knew when they changed the format that it was just a matter of time before Lisa found something bigger and better. By far Channel 9 has done an excellent job of hiring good knowledgeable sports women....Of course, they have no excuse for Mike Mattingly, he's horrible, why they didn't do away with him and leave Lisa there is beyond me.

Katherine Nero was one of the first and best female sports reporters in town. I also liked her replacement (can't think of her name) when she switched to news.

The 2 best female sports anchors in Cincinnati by a wide margin were Kathrine Nero & Paula Farris. After them, I'd rank Lisa Cornwell & Dei Lynam. And way back tied for last are Cammy Dierking & Tara Pachmeyer.

Kathrine & Paula both had nice deliveries & decent knowledge. And despite being attractive, I never got the feeling that either was getting by on their looks. They had sports cred.

I liked Lisa, but her delivery was just so-so for me. Dei had good knowledge but was a bit annoying.

Cammy & Tara come across as fans, but not knowledgeable at all. When Cammy 1st did sports, I thought she'd be off the air in 6 months. She is easily #1 on the list of people whose local TV careers make no sense to me. She is annoying, perky, cutesy acting, she mugs for the camera, etc. That act may work on some morning happy talk show, but not as a serious anchor or even doing sports. She and Tara are both pathetic homers doing sports with no attempt to even be impartial, thus they have no credibility. I agree with the poster who said Tara's writing skills are wretched & her delivery isn't much better. If you kept track of her factual errors & non-sensical statements, you'd fill up a legal pad by year's end. She wears Bengals jerseys on their Bengals show. Are we really supposed to believe that she can offer some fair & honest criticism of the team? Actually the Bengals are so far into her station's pocket that Johanson has lost whatever shred of credibility he has left as well. Anyway, she is unwatchably bad.

how about Ch 9 selling their news content for profit? a story supported by an advertiser appears in the 5pm news, followed by an interview with the doc from the hospital that performed the work, then a phone bank to answer viewer questions? that's news? sounds and looks like paid advertising?

Tara Packmayer is who the original poster is thinking of. I think she's great. Very cute, smart, nice in person. Plus, she went to UK!

Tara does not breathe. She's trying too blankin' hard to be Brad that she fails. And the wardrobe....Saturday's blouse was too much of an attempt of peek-a-boo.

Lisa Cornwell should have been kept at Sports. Even Mike Mattingly has been moved back to doing some sports. 9 jumped the shark on this one....along with the two new anchors who are horrible.

3 strikes for WCPO....or as Jack Moran and Slammin' Sammy Coleman would say...."that makes a big ole turkey!"

Paula Farris hands down was the best. Great sports info, nice voice, and a face for tv. Ch9's webcasts are pathetic. Who are these people on their website? The only one that was worthy of air time was that Candice girl (forget her last name but I'm pretty sure it starts with a T).

I agree with Anon 1:11, Paula Farris was the best woman that channel 9 had doing sports. Also those people that channel 9 has on there website doing there web news updates are horrible. The best one was the one named Candice and I don't see her on there anymore. I even saw one of them on the morning news last week, when we had all of the snow, reciting the school closings (which were already being shown on the bottom of my screen). She was even worse doing that than doing the web updates!

Does anyone remember Dee Lyman, she was the Channel 9 Sports girl.

I recall her being the first. This was either in the late 80s or early 90s. I forgot who she replaced.

She had blonde hair. She was not as vibrant as Tara though. I wonder what became of Dee.

Tara Pachmayer is sooo BAD! Stop talking about "her" like "she's" a girl when "she" looks like a DUDE! That she/he is the worst...bad delivery, bad attire, and bad hair. Has anybody seen when she/he pulls her hair back. Gag. Please, Ch. 12 News Director, remove this person from the air! There has to be better talent out there.

Dei, Lisa, Paula, Katherine and yes even before Betsy Ross, in the late 60's and early to mid 70's the legendary news pioneer Al Schottelkotte hired 2 female sports reporters at WCPO-TV. One was Marea Mannion (now a teacher at Penn State University) and the other was Jennie Paul, the daughter of baseball legend Gabe Paul. Jennie and I are still friends and keep in touch regularly. Both Marea and Jennie help blaze the way for all of the fine female sports talent in this market today. Always ahead of his time, Schottelkotte even had syndicated sports packages by then sportscaster Jane Chastain. Her sports reports aired in the Noon Report with Walt Maher. "Hats off to all the female sports and news talent at all of the stations in this otherwise male dominated market".

no kiese did not watch the snow coverage. He was getting the ice off his driveway. Kiese is never critical of the newscasts or radio programs. This week kiese will write a story about another Clear Channel radio station.
Maybe it's not kiese's fault. It seems the enquirer is having kiese cover a variety of topics. The enquirer should have hired Rick Bird to help kiese's overwhelming work load.

Someone needs to do a critique of the local news at all times of the day and tell the viewers which one is the one to watch. Channel 9 says that they are the dominant one, but I personally do not think that that is the case anymore. I use to watch them for David rose, but now that the is gone there is no "spark" to their news. There morning show has become more boring than ever. The only person with any life there is still Larry Handley. Too bad he is not on the evening news.

Tara Pachmayer is alright. Channel 9 has had so many talented and beautiful women sports reporters. Whoever does the hiring deserves an Emmy!!

The cutey Lisa Cornwell was sliding down a snowy hill giggling last week during a snow event, obviously she's out-o-here!! I really miss the adorable and gorgeous Paula Faris!! She's a sports reporter at NBC in Chicago. They all go on to better things after Cincinnati.

What a joke! just having a center called "breakign hews" don't make the stupid things they say any mroe important then if the real anchor was saying it. The center has NO POINT and is the stupidest idea i've ever heard.

and hay anonymous 1:11 and 2:40, the girl on the webcast was Candice Terrell. I remember she used to do the traffic reports to. Why do they always let the good ones get away and let these blubbering idiots on there website! I'm done with Chan. 9!
