Michael Moely Leaving Channel 5
Reporter Michael Moely is leaving Channel 5 to be an anchor at a Myrtle Beach TV station not yet on the air.
Moely leaves May 2 for WMBF-TV, Raycom Media's new NBC affiliate (Channel 32) in Myrtle Beach/Florence, S.C. The all-digital station plans to sign on Aug. 8 (8-8-08), in conjunction with NBC's Summer Olympics opening ceremonies, says the station's website. (Like the CinCW here, it will be available to HDTV and digital TV owners, and to analog TV owners with the new digital converter boxes.)
Moely, hired two years ago by Channel 5, will be working for News Director Matt Miller, who resigned as Channel 9 assistant news director in January to assemble the Myrtle Beach TV news team.
Moely had done some fill-in anchoring at Channel 5. Before coming here, he was weekend anchor and reporter at the Indianapolis Fox station. The South Bend native also has worked for stations in Grand Rapids, West Lafayette and his hometown.

Not to be snarky about it, but Randy Little was unable to put together coherent sentences without tripping over words when he was 20 years younger. How in the world would he ever compete in today's market, with the talent that's out there, and be out of practice at the same time? Of course, he couldn't be any worse than Janelle Walton.
Congratulations, Michael!! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. And those poor spring/summer breakers who turn on the TV.. They'll have no idea what hit them.
P.S. Gotta love the random posters - er, TROLLS - on here..who just can't WAIT to post all the senseless crap their little brains can muster up... But hey, if you're like me, Michael - you'll still be reading it once you split town! Hahaha. Let us know if they have just as many bitter babies down south ;-)
Michael Moely was one of the best TV reporters in town. I say that being a person who handles media interviews on a regular basis. Good luck, Michael.

that earthquake bit was a little over done....breaking news...an earthquake 150 miles away...it rocked parts of cincinnati and northern ky...no injuries reported. then before the weather, they said..."i didn't feel it, did you?"
Good for Michael. Never really caught on here as one of the top reporters, but I'm sure he does a nice job anchoring and deserves the chance. Even better, way to get out of the channel 5 hell-hole.

Top Reporters? You kidding me. There are no Top Reporters in this market.
Wow - the bleeding continues at TV 5. Here's who's left the past 14 months:
Bina Roy, Candice Hunter, Dave Wagner, Tom Sussi, Pete Scalia, Emily Longnecker, Juilette Vara and now Michael Moely. See a trend? Oh, and that weather guy Jim something or another left, too.
The crawl on 5 this morning was hysterical. To admit that "we don't have the information needed to report" says a lot. Isn't that the job of a news organization? To seek and find out information.
And to the chyron operator: it's judGe, not jude.
And to the producer: do you know how to proofread before the crawl hits the air. And do you ever watch your air signal? The jude crawl not only was during the 6am news...but during the first hour of Today. Embarassing!
Definitely the Dark Age at 140 West Nin...errrr.... 1700 Young.
You cannot keep good people when the work environment is toxic. And that kind of environment is allowed to fester at 5.
It starts at the top. What can you expect from a place where the management openly plays favorites and promotes back biting in the ranks.
I bet if you checked in with those folks mentioned that have left in the past 16 months...you would find them doing great.
