Reds in HDTV Tonight

Some of you have been asking when the Reds will be in HD on Fox Sports Net Ohio, so here it is: Tonight. The Reds-Brewers from Milwaukee at 8 p.m. today is the first of 71 FSNO games in HD.

Other upcoming HD Reds games:
Sunday 4/13, 1:30 p.m., at Pittsburgh.
Saturday, 4/19: 1 p.m. Brewers at GABP.
Monday-Tuesday, 4/21-4/22, 7 p.m., LA Dodgers at GABP.

FSNO will do standard definition broadcasts of the Reds-Brewers 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday from Pittsburgh.

FSNO says the Reds HD schedule can't be found easily on a website. And I've had no luck posting it on this blog in its current format. But the Reds schedule on the Reds website tells you if the game tells you if the game is on "FSN-HD." Here's the link:

thanks for the heads up on the Reds HD broadcast this evening... are they changing channels for this? I have both Time Warner and DirecTV... on another note... is there an inside information about when Fox News will go to HD. Almost everyone else in the news biz is in HD except Fox. They even have their business channel in HD... but I can't find out any info... thanks... wb

hey John,
Is there any rhyme or reason to the HD schedule?
I mean, apparently they've got all the HD equipment in Milwaulkee, so why can't they broadcast all three in the better format?
Seems strange to me.

There's a schedule on the Reds website under broadcast information. It show when the games are on FSN, FSN-HD, and FOX.

And on the main, calendar-style, schedule on the Reds' site the standard games are listed as "FSN Ohio" while the HD games are listed as "FSN-HD"

Go to CincinnatiReds.com. Right on the front in the "Next Game" box it says TV: FSN-HD.

You can also click on "Schedule" and every game says if it's on TV, high def or not.

Awesome! Now I can see Jeff Brantley's mullet in HD. The picture may be brighter, but he is dim as they come.

Regarding games being broadcast in high definition:

In addition to the limitations of having the equipment on site, it also requires additional satellite transponder space. Since lots of teams are broadcasting their entire schedule in HD, the additional space is at a premium right now.

FSN advertised the Reds in HD on 4/13 and then gave us what appeared to be an EDTV telecast in 4:3 ratio at 480p. What gives? Better not become a habit as this is misadvertising.

To 9:54
So it's a Time Warner thing? Directv has all the games in HD correct?

Also, following up on 10:31 I noticed the same thing and talked to at least one other person who confirmed it as well - John any comment from Time Warner why the "HD" game wasn't really in HD? This is an absolute farce that they would advertise it as such and then just broadcast the standard definition format on the HD channel.
