Steve Overbeck Looking For A New Station

Good news for Steve Overbeck fans: He says he'll be back on the radio soon, after being terminated last week by Clear Channel’s WKRC-AM.

Local radio's auto mechanic guru says he has offers and meetings with people, "so I will be back on the air on another station." His "Autoline" has been heard on WCKY-AM, WVXU-FM and WKRC-AM for about 30 years.

Overbeck won't say why he was dumped before last Saturday’s show. "I have no comment about Clear Channel," he says. Program director Tony Bender also didn't want to talk about Overbeck's firing, calling it "an internal issue." However, Bender did say a posting on my blog Saturday claiming he came into the studio April 19 and fired Overbeck for violating company policy by smoking in the studio was not accurate.

The 4-8 p.m. auto show will remain part of WKRC-AM’s "how to" Saturday lineup, as Bender provides on-air auditions for local mechanics. He wants to hire a permanent replacement by the end of June.

So which station will pick up Overbeck? An AM or FM station? WUBE-FM has talk on Saturdays with Denny McKeown. Maybe there? What's your line on the new home for "Autoline?"

another reason why Cincinnati NEEDS a FM Talk Station that doesn't lose interest in under a year

Put it on WMKV and simulcast it on public access! If it works on the X-star, it might as well work on WMKV and ICRC/TWC and Insight.

I agree we need another strong signal talk station that is given a chance. I am SICK of the doofus at CC including D Parks.

He thinks Tracy and Eddie are a hit?????????????

eddie and tracy are a hit. People will see the ratings for eddie and tracy's show and be amazed.

Well, if Mr. Overbeck was violating Ohio law by smoking in an office setting, then he brought it on himself. He'd have that problem in any radio studio in Ohio.

But that's just another step downward for WKRC-AM. Remember John Phillips? Without him, Mr. Thomas the Younger is sounding wilder and less thoughtful. A shame.

I'm amazed to find such poor programming overall in a market this size.

Overbeck. World's best auto mechanic bar none!!! However his radio show had become an infomercial and week old racing news. If he comes back tone down the infomercials for his buddy's shops and do more phone calls and the show would best great.
As for this city's radio world. Well, oh forget it, it is too far gone. Daryll Parks is a doof and has ruin 700 which used to be a great great station. Now it stinks.

XM Radio is the only way to go. I've been over Cincy radio for years. It's a shame that this big market has such small minded program directors.

To ThisIsNOTaMajorMarket..

Why is 55KRC trending upward if the programming is so terrible?

If Eddie and Tracy are a hit, then that is a SAD commentary about radio audiences...

I still can't believe this many people listen to talk radio.

Are you kidding me? Shut up and go put your helmet on and bubble wrap and sit in hermedically sealed chamber!
Good Lord, If that's the reason he was fired, then this is a law worth breaking.

from recent surveys eddie and tracy are leading the ratings for the 3-6 pm time slot.

This is more of the same. Why would anybody be surprised that Clear Channel wouldn't fire Steve Overbeck? CC treats all but 4 or 5 on air personalities like trash, CC can not keep decent producers in house, and you can put the blame directly on Darryl Parks, (not his real name), Tony Bender for being folded into the borg, but most importantly, and mostly forgotten is Mo Egger.

Mo is not that smart, but he is a loyal lapdog to Mr. Parks, and is a perfect replacement for Steve Versnick and the others who have run out of Cincinnati under the Parks regime. CC has done great work at destroying wonderfully entertaining radio, just look at the personalities gone since Parks and CC have been in charge: Denny McKeown, John Phillips, Paul Harvey, The President (on Saturday), Andy Furman, The Angry Guys, Jeff Piccoro(?), Steve Overbeck, Jerry Thomas and Gary Burbank. I know, the last 2 "retired", I would too if I had to work in that environment. Radio isn't work. Radio is entertainment. You can't be ebtertaining when you're miserable walking in the door.

I'm sure we'll get some really great programming like the fireballs we have now like Eddie and Tracey (The View on radio), "Doc" Rogers following the Reds game, Paid programming infomercials like Adam Bold, or maybe just do the network programming deal like the other stations.

Idiots. Now the only option left is to rediscover music, or start your own station with all the talent available, and wait for a major conglomerate to make a financially viable offer to buy it out. Anybody want to invest in my new radio station?

Their are many people that are "loyal lapdogs" to the great Darryl Parks. He has done more damage to Clear Channel Cincinnati then anyone I know could.

Oh yeah, don't tick of the great Darryl or he will make your life a living heck.

Good for Steve O for getting out of that crap.

I'd like to see a recent survey that would ask if loyal talk radio listeners know how to search for another station on their radio. I would specualte the answer would be "No".

Come on! Search around! Honestly, there are better choices on the radio than "Eddie and Tracey". You can sum up the ratings they lead in one wor: "Lazy".

I'm in the Dayton OH area and I listened to Steve's program as much as I could. I spent many a Saturday evening tuning in the "fastest 4 hours in radio", not only for the wealth of information, but the way Steve presented it. I listened last Saturday and was not only saddened from what I found out, but was bored with the whole program. I will not be tuning in to the new program from now on. When Steve lands a new station, this over 10 year listener, will sure tune my dial to whatever that new station is.

Mark

As a loyal listener and sometimes caller to AutoLine, I'm thrilled at the prospect of Steve Overbeck returning to the airwaves. My only hope is that he doesn't end up on some no power, can only pick up while in the parking lot station. And to those who complaining about Steve doing info commercials for his "buddies", uh it's radio and people pay for the time, and is there a better time to advertise an auto repair business? duh!

Wow, we have reached a new high this morning in so-called local radio. Pat Barry doing the morning show on 700 WLW. Its hard to contain yourself when you listen to this former disc jockey. This is so sad to see what WLW has become. McConnell keeps getting worse, people keep leaving and Darryl Parks keep belly laughing because he thinks he knows more about radio than anyone who has ever graced this landscape locally. Oh well, Mark Mays a geek executive in San Antonio for Clear Channel made $5.2 mil in salary last year. Lovely and this market continues down the tubes. Go figure.

Fingers (not his real name) and Jones in the afternoon. They are not worth even commenting on. They work cheap, their ratings are half way decent, so nothing matters if they are terrible, which they are. Little Darryl is happy , so that is that.

Yes, thanks to CC and D Parks Thomas and Burbank "retired" much the same way Johnny Carson did. They knew their days were numbers as being secure in their job positions. So it was to rush to "retire" while they still could, rather than be rush off and 'retired' or fired.

CC has no respect for QUALITY radio.

It's pitiful if Eddie and Tracy are a "hit". I was in the car on Friday a couple weeks ago when Eddie was off. For the second time there was some fake expert calling in in the same voice as some "Expert Doctor" that was on the last time Eddie was off. The Dr some expert on how to be your kids best freind. Tracy pretended to get upset with this guy and hang up or cut him off the show...I also cut off the show once I got to the store and turned on 1160 0ldies when I got back in to drive home.

Imagine my surprise when Tracy pulled the same "act" when Eddie was gone again. Tracy does WWE radio. FAKE GUESTS??? Crimeny, even Cunninghamt does not do that...well, except for that stupid, bogus Helen Mays deal and I heard was PARKS idea.

What a shark jump 700 has become. I have spoken to a few business men and doctors who used to ALWAYS listen to Burbank and they are shocked at how terrible the new "act" is..but it's even worse when Eddie is gone...Tracy can only talk about him, his son, his girlfriend (if she even exists or is she made up?)

I will miss Steve O when I am in the car on Saturday late afternoons as 550 does not come in clear in the house where I live.

Yep, Cincy needs a strong FM station with good talk radio.

Wouldn't it be funny if Furman, Thomas and Burbank ended up there? Though I know Burbank does NOT MISS having to be someplace everyday. But I could see him doing a weekend show.

But there is no creativity in the radio biz...it's all canned stuff and pre recorded machines to 'sound local'.

wonder whatever happened to that Columbus guy Sterling that used to fill in on WLW?

What I don't see discussed with the new afternoon lineup on WLW is now with Eddie off the WEBN morning it stinks. I can barely listen to the immature talk on WEBN in the morning.
