WDJO-AM Picks Up Paul Harvey
Well, this didn't take long. Paul Harvey, dropped today by WLW-AM, will be heard on oldies WDJO-AM (1160) by the end of this week.
It's a good move for the oldies station, which called Harvey's bosses at ABC News last Friday when they heard Bill Cunningham announce that WLW-AM was dropping Harvey starting today. Harvey should be popular with WDJO's 25-64 target audience.
Harvey returned to his shows today after a two-month absence recovering from pnuemonia. You can hear him at

He will be heard on WDJO (probably starting Thursday) three times a day:
8:30 a.m.: Five minute "Paul Harvey News" during Dusty Rhodes show.
Noon: 15-minute "Paul Harvey News" during Ted McAllister.
6 p.m.: "The Rest Of The Story" feature will open Rodger Kay's 6-9 p.m. show.

Post a Comment*Paul Harvey did not return today. He was not hosting his 8:30 news. Good for WDJO, but 700 is better off without him. Its a constant struggle for a radio station to stay relevant with its target audience, and having a guy on the air that your grandparents listened to when they were young doesn't help the station to sound hip. Plus, he's 89 years old - how much longer does he have on the air anyway?
Too bad WDJO and 55KRC can't make a fullblown swap of frequency and call signs. WDJO is sounding more like the old 55KRC!
So when do Richard Hunt Robert C. Bauer come back to do news?
All that's missing are editorials intro'd by Don Webb and Paul Sommerkamp sports. They already have Elliot Abrams and Accuweather.

P.S. Paul Harvey did return to his "Rest Of The Story" show today, but not the live "News" shows. No one seems to know about that. BTW, current fill-in Ron Chapman is a retired oldies DJ from Dallas/Ft. Worth. Dusty can probably provide more info on Ron

WDJO. Wow , a 14 watt blowtorch. And ole W. Emerson Rhoades playing that tired old music.
First off it's 5,000watts and "Rhodes" the correct spelling.
The 50plus crowd likes it and they cume 40,000plus per week-and only two years old. People are still finding the station. The trends should be top-notch after the Harvey crowd tunes in. Oh yeah, they are #1 in time spent listening-excellent for the advertisers!

Yea, they are still looking. Looking for the signal after sundown because you can only get it a block from the studio. As for Emerson. Play that tired old music you wrinkled teenager! I like their traffic and news reports from the "traffic center" and the "news center" Wow, mary Kuzan doing the news. Thats fresh.
Paul Harvey's health is not strong enough that he can do his "News and Comments". Hopefully someday. That's why Rob Chapman and other hosts will still be doing that until he's able to return full-time. But at least it will be good to hear his voice again for the "Rest Of The Story". He'll also voice some commercials.
Anon 5:39/4:21, why all the bile towrds WDJO? If you don't like it, no one is making you listen to it. Give them some credit, at least they are trying to be different from the corporate radio available everywhere else. They are a niche station, sure, but they do a good job and are fun to listen to. Why don't you take your laxative and give them a try?

someone posted in the ratings thread about 97.3, and what to be done with them. Any chance that might become the new WDJO? Or, any change WDJO has naked pictures of someone on the FCC and can get them to OK an increase in their signal strength??
It s funny that when someone is released by CC, they all high tail it over to 15 watt 1160. Andy Furman, Bill Boshear, and the like. Funny. They must have pictures on Jim LaBarbara or he would have ended up there. He would be better than what passes for talent.
Maybe now we can hear more of the "aviation expert" on 700. Have you ever missed or not taken a flight because of something this guy said in the mornings. What a stitch. Sort of like a "traffic" guy telling you the cut in the hill is backed up. Not that it has not been for the last 50 years
in the morning and afternoon.
