Cincinnati Idol Rip-Off Winners

If only the TV ratings race were this close...

Channel 12's Michelle Boutilette and Cammy Dierking squeaked – and we mean squeaked – past Channel 5's Rani Rico and Eric Green to win WKFS-FM's (KISS107.1) "Cincinnati Television Newsperson Idol Rip-off" karaoke contest by less than one percentage point.

The results:
--Ch 12's Michelle Boutilette and Cammy Dierking, "See You Again" 35.87%
--Ch 5's Randi Rico and Eric Green, "It's Raining Men" 35%
--Ch 19's Tricia Macke, Jack Atherton, Christie Dutton, Zach Wells and the Fox 19 news team, "Sweet Caroline" 29.19%

Voting closed this morning. The winners receive promotional support for their favorite charities – Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Multiple Sclerosis Society – by KISS107.1 morning hosts Tim and George.

It was fun to see the TV personalities goofing around on the karaoke video. They're still up at

Maybe this kind of offbeat exposure for Ch. 5's two personable meteorologists someday will translate into TV ratings. But not tomorrow. When May sweeps end tonight, Ch. 5's newscasts will be a distant third again at noon, 5, 5:30, 6 and 11... and fourth 6-7 a.m. But Ch 5's 11 p.m. news will beat "The Simpsons" again...

thanks for throwing that pleasant comment in John. It wouldn't be a perfect day without you trying to find a reason to gang up on Channel 5. You're so professional and do such a great job, I guess that's why you have the cake beat...since you couldn't handle the real news.

before all the snarky comments come out, I will say that I watch Channel 5, mostly because I like Derek, and their sports department, George and Ken. I used to despise Ken, but he has grown on me some, and I think he has toned it down a little which helps. I actually think if 5 would attempt a little more consistency with their anchor/reporter staff, and get rid of the stupid tag line, they might actually make some inroads. It won't happen over night to be sure, but it CAN happen if they quit the musical chairs.

Whatever happened to journalism? I mean, c'mon! Would you really see broadcasting legends like Al, Nick and Tom Adkins singing in some contest?

Would we see Tony Sands doing a tune from the Mills Brothers? Would we see this 20 years ago?

This is all just so, so sad! I miss greats like Al, Bill Myers, Hugh Dermody and alike.

Stick a fork in real journalism. Turn out the lights boys, cause the party is OVER!

Could someone tell Channel 5 to get rid of the VERY LAME segments with WLW and Jim Scott. Boy, those are painful to watch.

Hey Anon 7:52...You must have forgotten about Al "singing" in the Channel 19 spoof video "Bus Load of Nuns Holding Babies." he was even holding a Channel 19 microphone. There's your precedent. Not to mention his appearances on CBS TV shows like "Gunsmoke."

To the person posting about REAL JOURNALISM. It's not about journalism, it's about being a REAL person and connecting with REAL people in Cincinnati. I'm sure our beer drinking - cornhole throwing neighbors in Western Hills, Finnytown, and Anderson Township can relate more to a friend singing then a stuck up talking head. AND why would you rip on anyone who is going out of their way to help people in need?

Jeez. Everyone needs to relax. If i talked about death and dismemberment everyday, Id want to kick back a little bit too. Sorry, the days of Ron Burgundy are over people.

BRING BACK VINYL TOO!

C'mon. Times change.

And 5 is fine.

Keisewetter....you may not realize this, but most insiders know why you hate channel 5 so much. They wouldn't hire you when you so desperately wanted to work there, however, that's been such a long time ago. Don't you think it's time to give it up? It's going to take 10 years off your life.

Anon 3:21:
You're wrong. And your fellow anonymous "TV insiders" are wrong too.
I have NEVER applied or sought a job at Channel 5. Or at any other TV or radio station in town. I've worked for The Enquirer since I graduated from OU in June, 1975. I've never even had a conversation with anyone at any station about leaving the paper for a full-time broadcasting job.
Back in 1985 or '86, Post TV critic David Wecker tried as as a Channel 5 weatherman. Not me. Channel 5 tried to hire former Enquirer sports columnist Mark Purdy as sports anchor, and eventually hired Enquirer sports writer Greg Hoard.

You and your anonymous "TV insiders" don't know what you're talking about. To say I wanted, or sought a job at Channel 5, is a lie. I've heard this before, and read it on my blog over the years, but it's just not true. Don't you think it's time to give it up?
