Garrison Keillor Coming Back To Music Hall in November

Warm up the Powdermilk Biscuits, Garrison Keillor is coming back to Music Hall. Keillor broadcasts his second Thanksgiving weekend "A Prairie Home Companion" in three years from Music Hall on Nov. 29.

Keillor is truly enamored with Music Hall. He called it "the grandest hall we've ever done our show in" on his broadcast here on Nov. 25, 2006.

Folks at Cincinnati Public Radio (WGUC-FM/WVXU-FM) figured they had a good chance of getting Keillor back here from his open display of affection for Music Hall and Cincinnati’s rich music/radio history. Before the show, he walked off the stage and into the center of the hall to look up at the "painted dome of naked ladies." After the show, Keillor mingled with people and signed autographs -- which he seldom does. Still, getting him twice in three years is a coup.

Tickets will be available Oct. 1 to members of Cincinnati Public Radio stations (WVXU-FM, WGUC-FM). Last time they sold out in several hours. (You can become a member during the stations' fund drives later this month. Of course.)

In 2006, Keillor reminisced about Rosemary Clooney, Roy Rogers, King Records, Chet Akins, Doris Day and WLW-AM. How can he top that? Maybe by showcasing some of Cincinnati's great musical talent? Maybe Over the Rhine? Bonnie Lou? Katie Reider?

WVXU-FM may be asked for talent suggestions, so let's start a list. Who would be a good fit for "A Prairie Home Companion?"

Kiese. You mentioned Katie Reider. I don't know if you knew of Katie's illness (a rare myofibroblastic inflammation tumor), but you (and any other interested bloggers) can visit her blog at http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=25044193 . Her April 4 post gives a thorough update of her condition. Her April 6 post tells of a benefit project to begin on May 23.

Wow. I think one of the NPR stations just got a new member. I've wanted to travel to MN to catch APHC live since I first heard it in 1997. I'm a transplant, so I hadn't noticed APHC being in Cincy that often...very cool for the city to get this.

As for music, Over The Rhine is an absolute MUST for the show. What a treat that would be!

If you're talking about local radio folks - there isn't any talent left.

Oh, for a time machine: Doc Rusk and Kash D. Amburgy. Another unique taste of Cincinnati.

How about "Pantomime Hit Parade" on radio? Bob, Wanda and the gang wouldn't even have to worry if their mouths were in sync with the music.

How about Doc Rusk. I always thought he looked like Marge Shott in a suit, or else she looked like him in a dress! cincinnati, what a place.

I think Gary Burbank would be good because he could do Earl Pitts and play some blues music with the band. Marty and Thom Brennaman and Jeff "The Cowboy" Brantley. Jeff could do a bit with Garrison's cowboys, Dusty and Lefty.

Oh man, I agree, Burbank would be an absolute must-have for something like PHC...
