WGUC Makes One-Day Goal

Congratulations WGUC... You did it! Loyal listeners obviously appreciated the experimental one-way pledge drive. I just checked the WGUC website tonight and saw that the station exceeded its goal of 800 pledges in one day. The counter says 827.
Great news!

The station also beat its financial target ($85,000) by $373. At least 20% of those who made pledges were new members.

Worth doing again, right? Or maybe try a shorter-than-9-day drive on WVXU? But you've gotta admit the current 'VXU drives are much more listenable than the old Doc King drives filled with Catholic guilt trips and threats to drop popular programming.... They always reminded me of that old National Lampoon magazine cover headline: "Buy This Magazine! Or We'll Shoot This Dog!"

So true. Everything about WVXU now is better than Doc King's version. I had stopped donating a couple of years before WGUC's owners bought the station, because as much as I liked the NPR programming, everything produced locally was total amateur-hour stuff.

Your right...the "old" WVXU fund drive could be hard on the ears sometimes. But they also raised $450,000 in six days. AND they didn't have to borrow money to make payroll.

I sometimes listen to GUC and my sister is a huge fan and supporter. Glad the one day pledge deal worked.

Why make such a big deal about this one day fund drive. It's not like this is new. I believe WMUB has done a one day power day in the past. WNKU has had one planned next month for over a month. These are being done all around the country.

So now instead of having four 10 day fund drives will those two stations now have monthly one day fund drives to raise enough money to save those sinking ships and pay off their huge debts?
